Cork boards are handy but they have the reputation of being a bit of an eyesore. However, with a little Marimekko fabric, you can have a bulletin board that is as attractive as it is useful. Here is a brief guide to creating your own Marimekko bulletin board.

1. Buy a cork board. They can be purchased at Target, Home Depot or just about any craft store.

2. Choose your fabric. Lay it over the bulletin board to create a pleasing composition.

3. Cut your fabric, leaving an extra inch on each side. For example, to cover a 12×12 inch board, cut 14×14 inches.

4. Stretch the fabric over the cork board. Fasten in the back with staples. Make sure you secure the fabric by alternating staples between the four sides. This way, the fabric will be even.

5. Once you have stapled the sides, it is time to fix the corners. We recommend cutting off the fabric corners’ tips so you will have less material to staple through. Fold the fabric “hospital corner” style with a tight triangular fold to create a flat and unpronounced edge of fabric. Staple to secure.

6. Attach D-rings to the back of the cork board with a glue gun. We prefer the glue gun to the screws because most boards are too thin for screws. Above are the ones we used.

7. Hang and enjoy!
