We came across this inspiring post about the Children’s Hospital of the University of Helsinki at kotkarankki. The paintings and décor are great – including the donated Marimekko wall hangings made from a repeat of the Karkuteillä fabric pattern (above). See the entire post here.

Inside Marimekko Headquarters (Part 1 of 5)

Well, technically we’re starting outside. I took the Helsinki Metro (the northern most in the world) from our hotel to Marimekko headquarters – just a quick 15 minute ride from the center of Helsinki. The exterior is pretty unassuming (although, that photo is not very good), but once inside you are struck with the vibrancy and life of Marimekko design. As expected, Marimekko is everywhere. You can see in theses photos the Marimekko upholstered furniture, large fabrics hanging, throw pillows in the lobby – even the cafeteria features Marimekko tablecloths. Of course, that’s to be expected here – but how great would it be to have Marimekko surrounding you in your office?

Trip to Finland – Airport Marimekko

I spent last week in Finland and have plenty of Marimekko photos as well as some behind the scenes looks at Marimekko’s headquarters and fabric production – even some videos too. I will be posting more this week, so be sure to check back…. First, the Marimekko store at Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Yes, you can get Marimekko the second you step off the plane. (Sorry about the photo quality – others will be much better).
