Marimekko Design Research
Bright Marimekko design has returned to the large windows of the legendary Design Research Building in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Design Research (D/R), the famous retailer and importer that closed its doors in 1978, had a significant role in Marimekko’s history by bringing the brand to the US market in 1959. It was at D/R that Jacqueline Kennedy purchased the Marimekko dress she was wearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1960. Read more.

Thanks for all your great photos! I had a chance to see the Design Research retrospective yesterday. What a great example of that Mid-Century design was like back in the mid-century – so fresh and exciting!
I have just finished ironing a group of Marimekko dreses that I am sending my daughter. I have included one of Marimekko’s most beautiful dresses, which is in one of your windows. It is a basket weave print in orange, purple and rose red. Long in the back and short in front. It is a work of art! (1969).A privilege to have worn and owned.
Large collection of vintage Marimekko boldly printed cotton dresses can be found in the unreserved Jewelry/Silver/Couture sale at Rago Auction on April 10, 2011. Most have not been worn. Most bear the Design Research label, some have tags. Just in time for Spring!
